  • When is the application deadline for Spring 2020?
The Spring 2020 application deadline is Thursday, February 6th at 11:59 PM. No late submissions!
  • What is it like to work on a project?
Every project starts with a perceived problem or opportunity. As consultants, it is our job to recognize the potential for an organization to be different. Over the course of a semester, the team’s role is to see where an opportunity may actually exist and subsequently build a strategy to capture it. Teams brainstorm, research, and test potential solutions that they will recommend or create for the partnering nonprofit. Consulting isn't for everyone, but if you're a problem solver or creative thinker, working on consulting projects could be incredibly rewarding.
  • Can I apply if I do not have consulting experience?
Yes. The short answer is your major, year and experience will not limit you during the application process. The longer answer is that we strive for diversity of majors and backgrounds. At EmpowerED, we treat consulting as a creative process in addition to a strategic process. We recognize that everyone has something to offer, so if we can successfully bring together a range of perspectives, we can create better and more innovative solutions for our partners.
  • Can I apply if I am a graduate student?
    Yes. All students are welcome.
  • What does the application process consist of?
For returning members, there will be an online written application. Decisions will be based on the application and previous evaluations. For new members, there will be two stages: an online written application and an interview. Both the written application and the interview will ultimately be considered. Note that there will not be a “case interview”.
  • How can I make my application stand out?
EmpowerED is looking for students who enjoy working in teams and are passionate about making a difference in the field of education. Don’t be afraid to make your application a personal statement. Show us what motivates you and why you believe your perspective can contribute to a challenging team project. Make sure to use the resources provided to you within the online application!
  • Can I apply to be a project manager?
Yes! The main qualities we look for within a project manager are excellent communication, strong leadership abilities, time management skills, and accountability. Project managers are the bridge between the non-profit client and the team members - it is your job to maintain the morale and spirits of the team while delivering a successful project. It is an extremely important and rewarding responsibility, and should only be considered if you can dedicate at least 8 hours a week.
  • Can I apply to join the Executive Board?
Yes! Let us know about your interest in joining the E-Board in your consultant application and we will talk about it in the interview.
